Justine Baakman is an associate in the Philadelphia and New Jersey offices. She focuses her practice primarily in the areas of products liability, construction, and premises liability litigation in both state and federal court. She has extensive experience defending corporate clients in catastrophic loss matters and has also defended 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claims.
Ms. Baakman has achieved a number of noteworthy outcomes, including a defense verdict in Philadelphia where the injuries of an adult and minor plaintiff included alleged carbon monoxide poisoning, dismissal with prejudice of a products liability matter in federal court, where the allegations included plaintiff’s complete loss of ability to continue practicing as a physician, the denial of opposing counsel’s request to obtain unduly burdensome and irrelevant electronic discovery in a highly contentious construction matter in New Jersey, requiring nearly six months of discovery motion practice and oral argument, and the voluntary withdrawal of a plaintiff’s claims in Philadelphia based on extensive investigation during discovery.
Since entering practice, Ms. Baakman has served as a mock trial judge, judging competitions hosted by Philadelphia area schools. She has also volunteered her time providing local Philadelphia residents with free legal advice on a variety of issues.
